Lovlina suffered a 4-1 split-decision loss to Australia’s Emma-Sue Greentree in the women’s 75 kg final
Star Indian pugilist Lovlina Borgohain had to settle for a silver medal in the 75 kg category of women’s boxing on Saturday in the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow.
Entering the gold-medal match with a tactical approach, Borgohain tried to rely too much on the height advantage against her Australian opponent.

Countering that well, Greentree maintained an aggressive tempo from the opening bell, pressing forward and closing the distance to land scoring combinations inside. Borgohain responded with crisp jabs and counter-punches, working to keep the action at mid-range.
As the bout progressed through three rounds, both fighters traded sharp exchanges in a tactical contest. While Borgohain demonstrated composure and precise ringcraft, Greentree’s sustained pressure earned key points on the judges’ scorecards.
After three intense rounds, the decision went to the Australian, leaving the Assamese pugilist with the silver medal.
Completing the Medal Set
For Borgohain, a silver medal win added to her impressive tally of achievements in her career. Having previously claimed a bronze medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, a gold medal at the 2023 World Championships in New Delhi, and multiple honours, the 28-year-old boxing mainstay has showcased her confidence ahead of the LA Olympics.
Borgohain’s route to the final featured a 5-0 unanimous decision victory over Tuvalu’s Tarona Khanum Taafaki in the semi-finals, following an initial first-round bye.

Anchoring India’s Boxing Campaign
India’s podium tally reached 34 medals—comprising 11 gold, 15 silver, and eight bronze—following a productive six-medal haul on Friday.
The highlight of the day came on the judo mat, where Asmita Dey and Harsh Singh made history by capturing India’s first-ever Commonwealth Games gold medals in the sport, alongside a silver-medal performance from Yamini Mourya.
In track and field, Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra secured silver in the men’s javelin throw, while teammate Yash Vir Singh claimed bronze to complete a double-podium finish. Decathlete Tejaswin Shankar added to the athletics tally with a bronze in the ten-event discipline.
