India’s star weightlifter Mirabai Chanu will look for a third consecutive gold medal in the Commonwealth Games when she takes part in the women’s 48kg event at the Glasgow Games on Sunday, July 26.
The 31-year-old already secured the top prize at the Gold Coast 2018 and Birmingham 2022 Games and is among the favourites to clinch her third gold medal in the women’s 48kg event. For context: wrestler Vinesh Phogat is the only Indian athlete to win three back-to-back CWG golds.
Chanu, who also won a silver medal at the Glasgow 2014 Games, secured her place in this year’s edition as the reigning CWG champion. She will be the favourite to clinch gold again this year as she faces 10 other weightlifters from all over the world.
