Three Indian weightlifters won medals on Day 3 of the 23rd Commonwealth Games

India had a fruitful outing on Day 3 of the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow, Scotland, on Sunday. Mirabai Chanu scripted history by winning her third consecutive CWG gold medal, while Rishikanta Singh and Raja Muthupandi bagged a silver medal each.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to social media to congratulate the CWG medallists. Speaking about Chanu, he said that her third gold medal in the Commonwealth Games was a “glorious chapter” in weightlifting.

“Another glorious chapter in Indian Weightlifting!” Modi wrote. “The talented Mirabai Chanu once again showcased her skills at the Commonwealth Games with a stunning performance in the 48 kg category and winning Gold.”

“With back-to-back Commonwealth Games Golds and an overall fourth CWG medal to her name, she remains an inspiration for every Indian. Congratulations to her! Best wishes for the endeavours ahead.”

Chanu bagged India’s first gold medal in the ongoing Glasgow Games, winning the women’s 48 kg event with a total lift of 190 kg. She registered a lift of 85 kg in snatch before lifting 105 kg in clean and jerk – both being CWG records.

This latest victory marked Chanu’s fourth overall medal in the Games. She had won a silver medal at Glasgow 2014 before bagging golds at Gold Coast 2018, Birmingham 2022, and now Glasgow 2026.
