Pakistan finally have something to celebrate at the Commonwealth Games 2026. Boxer Fatima Zahra has guaranteed the country their first medal of the Glasgow Games. She has done it with a display that has boxing fans back home talking about a new era for women’s boxing.
Zahra’s run to the women’s 60kg semi-finals has been simply sensational. She opened her campaign by stopping Lesotho’s Realibohile Segoete inside the distance in the round of 16, a statement of intent that carried straight into the quarter-finals.

Against New Zealand’s Jordan Wilson, the 21-year-old was in control from the first bell, sweeping every judge’s card for a clean 5-0 decision at the SEC Centre.
That result alone books her a bronze, since both losing semi-finalists take home medals under the tournament’s format. It also ends Pakistan’s 12-year wait for a Commonwealth boxing medal, with Muhammad Waseem winning a silver in 2014.

Zahra, who captains Pakistan’s boxing contingent and fights out of Sargodha, now turns her attention to Friday, where Canada’s Marie-Bathoul Al-Ahmadieh stands between her and a shot at gold.
It’s a breakthrough moment for a boxer who’s quietly built one of the more impressive resumes in Pakistani women’s sport, including a bronze at the 2025 Islamic Solidarity Games and an appearance at the 2023 Asian Games.
Zahra’s medal confirmation has been the shining light in what has otherwise been a poor campaign for the Asian nation, which has yet to secure a podium finish. Eyes now turn to Arshad Nadeem, the Paris Olympics gold medalist, whose event (javelin) is still to come.
Scotland also celebrated a first on the night, as Caitlin Rainey stopped Papua New Guinea’s Flora Loga to secure the hosts’ maiden women’s boxing medal since the event joined the Games program in 2014. She will face Northern Ireland’s Kaci Rock next.
