10. Shardul Thakur – 10.75 Crores (IPL 2022 Auction) :
An Indian pacer who can bat as well is a rare breed. And if he has proven himself at the international level, then he will surely be a hot prospect at the auction. That’s what happened in 2022 when Shardul Thakur got a whopping deal of INR 10.75 crore from Delhi Capitals at the auction. He was with CSK at a price of INR 2.6 crore and got more than four times his previous salary.
9. KL Rahul – 11 Crores (IPL 2018 Auction) :
KL Rahul made his IPL debut in 2013 for RCB and managed to score only 20 runs in five games. But once he came back to the franchise in 2016, he became one of the most consistent batters, scoring heavy load of runs in every season. Then in 2018, he was released by RCB ahead of the auction. In the auction, Punjab Kings signed him at a price of INR 11 crore. Notably, he was getting 1 crore from RCB previously.
8. Manish Pandey – 11 Crores (IPL 2018 Auction) :
Manish Pandey has been part of the league since 2008. He has played for different franchises throughout. Manish is a pretty good middle-order batter and is the first Indian to score an IPL hundred. After 2017, he was released by KKR, and in the 2018 IPL auction, Sunrisers Hyderabad signed the dashing batter for a price of INR 11 crore, making him one of the top-paid Indian players.
7. Jaydev Unadkat – 11.5 Crores (IPL 2018 Auction) :
Veteran left-arm pacer Jaydev Unadkat has been part of IPL since 2011. However, he made headlines when he was picked by Rajasthan Royals at a price of INR 11.5 crore in 2018. One prime reason was his T20 performance in 2017 season. From 3 crore in 2017, Unadkat earned three times in the next reason.
6. Shreyas Iyer – 12.25 Crores (IPL 2022 Auction) :
Shreyas Iyer is an Indian batter who got recognition after some brilliant IPL seasons. He played for Delhi Capitals from 2015 to 2021 and was released. He also led the franchise for a couple of seasons. In 2022, Kolkata Knight Riders were looking for a captain. Hence, they went after Iyer and acquired him at a price of INR 12.5 crore.
5. Dinesh Karthik – 12.5 Crores (IPL 2014 Auction) :
Veteran wicket-keeper Dinesh Karthik has been part of the league since 2008. His best performance came in 2013, when he scored 510 runs for Mumbai Indians. But he was released by the franchise. Then, at IPL 2014 auction, Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) signed him at a price of INR 12.5 crore, which is the highest salary cap he has had in his IPL career.
4. Yuvraj Singh – 14 Crores (IPL 2014 Auction) :
Yuvraj Singh is probably the best middle-order Indian batter that India has ever produced in his era. That is why his demand in IPL has always been high. He had an ordinary season in 2013 with Pune Warriors India. But despite that, Yuvraj Singh got a whopping deal of INR 14 crore in 2014 IPL auction by Royal Challengers Bangalore. He was the most expensive Indian player back then.
3. Deepak Chahar – 14 Crores (IPL 2022 Auction) :
Chennai Super Kings won the 2021 season, and Deepak Chahar made major contributions with them, picking up 14 wickets in the season. But with only four players to retain, CSK had to release the pacer ahead of the IPL auction 2022. But the franchise didn’t hold back and went on to break their bank to acquire the pacer at the auction. CSK signed him at a massive price of INR 14 crore, making him CSK’s most expensive Indian player at the auction.
2. Ishan Kishan – 15.25 Crores (IPL 2022 Auction) :
Just like Deepak Chahar, the same issue happened with Mumbai Indians when they had to release Ishan Kishan ahead of the IPL mega auction in 2022. But the franchise was keen to get him back and went all out for him. In the end, MI re-bought Ishan for a price of INR 15.25 crore at IPL auction in 2022, making him the second-most expensive Indian player ever.
1. Yuvraj Singh – 16 Crores (IPL 2015 Auction) :
After getting picked by RCB in 2014, Yuvraj Singh was released in the very next season. In 2014, he played 14 matches, scored 376 runs, and took 5 wickets. With a decent season under his belt, Yuvraj broke all the records in the next auction. In 2015 IPL auction, Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) signed him at a price of INR 16 crore, making him the most expensive Indian player at IPL auction ever.
