Three players who could lead Delhi Capitals if Rishabh Pant doesn't get fit before IPL 2024
David Warner led Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2023 in absence of regular captain Rishabh Pant.
The preparations for the 17th edition of the Indian Premier League began with all ten franchises are busy in finding the right combination for their teams. The Delhi Capitals are one of the few teams that have not won an IPL edition since the very start. They will be keen to get the monkey off their back. The franchise has released a few players ahead of the auction.
They will hope that all the decisions will be right and that they can end the trophy drought. One thing that will be worth the return of Rishabh Pant. The DC skipper suffered a car accident in December 2022 and has been out of action since then. David Warner led the team last season. So if Pant does not make it for the coming season as well, who will DC look for as a captain?
Here are three contenders who can lead the Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2024 in Rishabh Pant’s absence
1. David Warner:
Veteran Australian opener David Warner did the captaincy job in the IPL 2023. DC had a horrible start, and they were the first team to be eliminated and win only five games. But Warner is one of the few captains who has led a team to an IPL win. Under him, SRH won the 2016 edition. So there are chances that he can lead DC once again if Rishabh Pant doesn’t get fit.
2. Axar Patel:
Axar Patel is another player who can be the captain of the team. The all-rounder joined the franchise in the 2018 season, and since then, he has been an integral part of the side. Patel has been excellent with the team and a consistent performer with both the bat and the ball. He has taken 51 wickets in 68 games for DC and also scored 732 runs. Axar has also been part of the Indian team for a long time now and is experienced enough for the role.
3. Prithvi Shaw:
Just like Axar, the dashing opener Prithvi Shaw has also been part of the Delhi Captails since the 2018 season. After Warner and Pant, he is the highest run scorer for the franchise among the active players. Shaw led India’s U19 team to World Cup glory in 2018 and has experience leading domestic teams as well. He has played 71 games for DC and scored 1694 runs at a strike rate of 145.78 with 13 half-centuries. Just like Pant, he is also young and can be groomed as a future leader.
