4 players who can replace Wanindu Hasaranga in Sunrisers Hyderabad squad for IPL 2024
Wanindu Hasaranga has been ruled out of the IPL 2024.
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) started the IPL 2024 in a decent way, as they have won two of the four games played in the tournament so far. The two wins came against two of the most successful teams in the competition: CSK and MI. However, the franchise suffered a big blow on Saturday when Sri Lankan star leg-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga got ruled out of the tournament.
Hasaranga, who didn’t join the team for the first four games, will not be available for the entire season now. He will miss the IPL 2024 due to chronic heel pain. The Sri Lankan cricket board informed this to the BCCI. It has left SRH with no choice than searching for his replacement which is likely to be announced pretty soon. Here are four contenders that might come in as Hasaranga’s replacement in the IPL 2024.
Here are 4 players who can replace Wanindu Hasaranga in Sunrisers Hyderabad squad for IPL 2024
1. Fabian Allen
Fabian Allen was part of SRH in 2020 but didn’t get any games to play. Later, he played for Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians in 2021 and 2022 respectively. But the West Indies all-rounder went unsold at the IPL 2024 auction. However, he can certainly make a comeback in the league if SRH look at him as Hasaranga’s replacement. He has been playing in various leagues and has done a pretty good job. He recently competed in ILT20 and SA20, and his all-round ability makes him a pretty decent choice for SRH.
2. Micheal Bracewell
Speaking of an all-rounder, Kiwi star Michael Bracewell is one of the most powerful strikers in the world. The left-hander can be a brilliant finisher for SRH, where they don’t have someone trustworthy at the moment. Bracewell can be a game-changer with the bat, but not to forget, he is also a pretty handy spinner. Bracewell has played five IPL games and scored 58 runs at an average of 29. He has also taken six wickets at an economy rate of 8.23.
3. Ish Sodhi
SRH might also look for a specialist leg spinner, and if we look at the current era, Ish Sodhi is someone who can do this job pretty well. The Kiwi leg spinner is one of the leading wicket-takers in T20 internationals with 132 wickets. He played for Rajasthan Royals in 2018 and 2019 and took nine wickets in eight games at an economy rate of 6.69. He can be very effective on the surface of Hyderabad as well.
4. Tabraiz Shamsi
South African leg-spinner Tabraiz Shamsi is another good option as replacement for Wanindu Hasaranga. He is someone who is always in the face of the opposition and has an aggressive character. He has immense experience playing the shortest format at the international level and as well as in the franchise leagues. Though he hasn’t had many chances in the IPL, he can be a good pick. He has 78 wickets in 65 T20Is.
