India will face Afghanistan in a three-match T20I series, starting on January 11.

The much-awaited announcement has been made, and the Indian squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series has been announced. Team India will host Afghanistan for three T20Is, starting on January 11, and these will be the final T20Is for India before the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

Hence, Rohit Sharma has returned to the team, and he will be leading the team in the coming series. He, along with Virat Kohli, have made the comeback into the T20I squad. These two played the last T20I for India during the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia. But there are a few players who are missing from the announced squad. Here we will talk about such six players.

Here are 6 Indian stars missing from T20I squad for Afghanistan series

1. Ravindra Jadeja:

Star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who was vice-captain in the last T20I series, is a notable name to miss the squad. He has been playing frequently across formats and has been an integral part of the team. India will be playing a five-match test series against England, starting on January 26, and he will be one of the main players. That might be the reason why he has not been selected in the squad.

2. Mohammed Siraj:

Another big name to miss the squad is Mohammed Siraj. He was part of the team in the recently concluded test series against South Africa. He will also be a key member of the test series against England. Hence, the management might’ve wanted to give him sufficient time so that he could be fresh for the test. Hence, he has also been rested.

3. Jasprit Bumrah:

Jasprit Bumrah is certainly the big name to miss out on. The ace pacer recently won Player of the Series in the two-match test series against South Africa and is in good form. And his form will be crucial for India in the upcoming test series against England. Hence, the Indian management wanted to manage his workload, and he has been rested.

4. Hardik Pandya:

Hardik Pandya has been leading Team India in T20Is since their exit in ICC T20 World Cup 2022, in the absence of Rohit Sharma. But he is not in the squad for upcoming Afghanistan T20Is. Well, it was expected, as he hasn’t recovered from his ankle injury he suffered in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 and has been in rehab. He is expected to be back during the IPL 2024.

5. Suryakumar Yadav:

Suryakumar Yadav led India in the last two T20I series against Australia and South Africa, and India were pretty successful under him. But he is another one who is missing from the squad. However, he is also recovering from an injury which he suffered during third T20I against South Africa, which is why he is not part of the squad. Some reports have confirmed that he will be fit by the IPL 2024.

6. Ruturaj Gaikwad:

Ruturaj Gaikwad is another name to miss out on. Well, he is another player who has been injured and has been recovering from it. The right-hander was the highest run-scorer in the last home T20I series against Australia. But due to injury, he was ruled out of the South Africa tests, and that is a similar story here.
