The T20 World Cup 2024 will be held in the US and the West Indies from June 2 to 29.

The BCCI selection committee is set to meet next week to decide on the Indian squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024. The event will be held in the US and the West Indies from June 2 to 29.

The selection meeting is expected to take place around April 28-29. Indian captain Rohit Sharma, who is expected to attend the meeting, will be in New Delhi on April 27, for his team’s Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match against Delhi Capitals.

There is a lot of speculation around the Indian squad and whether any left-field pick might happen, or the BCCI selectors will spring up a surprise. However, if reports are to be believed, the squad is more or less going to be a known one with no surprises.

As per the Cricbuzz report, the Indian team management is wary of bringing in young stars like Riyan Parag or Abhishek Sharma directly into the Indian team for the T20 World Cup. The think tanks is more likely to introduce the young duo in bilateral series that follows the ICC event.

Riyan Parag has been phenomenal for RR in the ongoing IPL 2024 with 318 runs to date with a strike rate of 161.42. On the other hand, Abhishek Sharma has been giving SRH flying starts and has scored 256 runs at a strike rate of 215.96.

Virat Kohli’s selection green lighted; Selectors mull on second wicket-keeper spot

The Cricbuzz report also stated that Virat Kohli will be picked in the 15-member squad despite debates over his scoring rates. Kohli has been scoring at an improved strike rate of 150 this season and at over 152 in the powerplays. He is still the holder of the Orange Cap (379 runs in 8 games).

Also, Rishabh Pant is set to be back in the Indian team after an encouraging return to Delhi Capitals in the IPL. But the selectors are in a quandary for the second keeper’s slot. KL Rahul and Sanju Samson are the two obvious options and both have done well with the bat.

There is very little to differentiate between the two in terms of performance in this IPL – 286 and 276 runs respectively in seven games. But both have batted for their respective teams in top order, where India is overflowing with options.

The only pick for a keeper in the middle order is Dinesh Karthik, who has 251 runs at a strike rate of 196.08 for RCB. But he will be 39 when the T20 World Cup begins and how seriously the selectors take his readiness could be a point of interest.
