Adam Gilchrist has made his prediction for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25 in Australia.

Team India are set to play a total of 10 test matches from September to January. They will play home series against Bangladesh and New Zealand and then tour Australia for the much-awaited five-match test series for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

India have won the last four test series against Australia, including two away from home and would be looking to make a hat-trick on their upcoming trip.

Australia haven’t been able to get their hands on this trophy since the 2017 series. The last time they won the Border-Gavaskar Trophy was in the 2014-15 series at home.

Adam Gilchrist backs Australia to win the upcoming Border-Gavaskar test series.

In the upcoming series, a close contest is expected between the two best test teams of the modern era. That’s what former Australian wicket-keeper Adam Gilchrist feels. He backs Australia to win the coming series but reckons that it will be a close contest.

Pat Cummins and his team are desperate to defeat India in a test series, but it will take outstanding performances from their players to thump the Asian giants. Gilchrist is hopeful that Australia can prove their dominance at home and win the series this time around.

In an interview with The Times of India, Gilchrist said, “Onus is on Australia to prove they are the dominant force at home. India know how to go away and win overseas. Naturally, I’m going to say Australia, hope they get there. But it’s too close to call. It will be a close tussle.”

The upcoming five-match test series is equally important for both sides with regard to the World Test Championship standings. India and Australia are the top two in the points table and are in pole positions to make the WTC final for the second consecutive time. The winner of this series will virtually have one foot in the WTC 2025 final.
