Afghanistan have played nine Test matches so far in their history.

In a historic game, Afghanistan will play New Zealand for the first time in Test cricket in September this year. The match will take place at the Greater Noida Sports Complex Ground in India.

Afghanistan have played nine Test matches so far in their history, having made their Test debut in 2018. This will be their third Test match in 2024, which is the most they would have played in a calendar year. Out of nine, they have won three Tests and lost six.

Afghanistan to play New Zealand at their adopted home ground in Greater Noida

The Greater Noida Sports Complex Ground has been the Afghanistan cricket team’s adopted home ground. They have played plenty of matches here.

The Hashmatullah Shahidi-led team will host Tim Southee’s New Zealand side in a one-off Test match. The tentative date for this match is from September 9 to 13. This is around a month before the Kiwis tour India for a three-match Test series.

The India vs New Zealand Test series will get underway on October 16. In between this, the Black Caps will tour Sri Lanka for a Test series.

Among the Test-playing nations, apart from New Zealand, England, Australia, Pakistan and South Africa are yet to play Afghanistan in the longest format.

Australia had a Test scheduled against Afghanistan in 2021 but Cricket Australia pulled out from it, citing humanitarian reasons after the Taliban’s takeover of the country and their banning of women from playing sports.

Afghanistan’s three Test match wins have come against Ireland, Zimbabwe and Bangladesh.
