Ajinkya Rahane last played for India in July 2023 during West Indies test tour.

Ajinkya Rahane, the out-of-favor India batter, has sent a strong message to the BCCI selection committee with a splendid century for Leicestershire in the ongoing County Championship match against Glamorgan.

Rahane, who last played a test for India in July 2023 against the West Indies, has been grinding it in domestic cricket and English county cricket as well. The senior batter appeared to be in fantastic form in the first innings, but he only scored 42 runs. However, when his team needed him most, he stood tall for them.

Leicestershire were struggling in the second innings, with a score of 74/3. Rahane then made an important contribution to the team. The right-hander soaked up all the pressure and, with Peter Handscomb, added 183 runs to help his team go back into the game.

Rahane showcased his full arsenal of shots with the bat and stroked classy shots on both off and leg side. Rahane stroked 102 runs off 192 balls and also slammed 13 fours and 1 six in his innings, helping his team go past 250 runs.

Ajinkya Rahane aims for a comeback to Indian team with a splendid performance in county cricket

This was Rahane’s 40th hundred in First Class (FC) cricket and this surely will put him in eyeline of the Indian selectors. India are set to play five tests at home and five tests in Australia and Rahane will want to push for a comeback in Indian XI for these matches.

Ajinkya Rahane was riding high after leading the Indian team to a 2-1 test series win in Australia on the 2020-21 tour Down Under. However, after that, his form deserted the batter. Rahane was put on notice after India lost the World Test Championship (WTC 2023) final to Australia, despite playing a lone hand with the bat.

However, he was then picked for the two-match test tour of West Indies and was named the vice-captain of the team. However, he failed to make an impact with the bat and has not been picked in the Indian team since then.

Ajinkya Rahane has scored almost 13,000 runs in FC cricket, with an average of 45.76. However, he was still not nominated to the Duleep Trophy 2024 squads, indicating that he is not a contender for the Indian team selection.
