KKR bought Mitchell Starc for INR 24.75 crores in IPL 2024 auction.

Australian pacer Mitchell Starc created history in IPL 2024 auction as he bagged a record deal of INR 24.75 crores from Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on December 19, 2023, in the Coca-Cola Arena.

Earlier, Starc’s Australian teammate and captain, Pat Cummins had become the first player in IPL auction history to get a bid of INR 20 crores, as he was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad for INR 20.50 crores.

Starc has played only two seasons in IPL for Royal Challengers Bangalore and since then has kept himself away from Indian Premier League. He was picked by KKR in IPL 2018 but had to pull out. He remains one of the most sought-after pacers in the world, but Starc has fully committed himself to Australian cricket, especially in the red-ball format.

Gujarat Titans and Kolkata Knight Riders got into a tiff as the bidding soared well over INR 20 crores. In the end, GT had to bow out, leaving KKR the ultimate winner, as they got Mitchell Starc as a reward, making him the most expensive buy in IPL history.

How much amount will Mitchell Starc earn per match in the IPL 2024?

Kolkata Knight Riders will be led by Shreyas Iyer in IPL 2024 with Nitish Rana will be the vice-captain. Mitchell Starc will add a lot of spice to their pace department which consists of Harshit Rana, Vaibhav Arora and newly bought Chetan Sakariya. They also have two all-rounders, Venkatesh Iyer and Andre Russell.

“Somebody told me just now before Starc’s bid, they put up something like a historic bid. Very quickly history changed. IPL has changed and the salary cap has changed (laughs). Everyone comes with their own plans. This is my 14th auction – you know you win some and lose some. Starc was a proffered player from that skillset standpoint. We were not successful in some bids, so that favored us. We were just happy to have him in our side,” KKR CEO Venky Mysore said.

Meanwhile, Starc is set to make a bank, per match in IPL 2024 as well.

If he plays 14 matches in the league stage, Starc will make INR 1,76,78,571 per match. And if KKR manages to qualify for the playoffs and the finals, Starc will be expected to play 16 games. Then Starc will be able to make INR 1,54,68,750 per match.
