Andrew Flintoff was the assistant coach of England in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in June.

In a significant development, former cricketer Andrew Flintoff is set to leave the England men’s cricket team coaching staff after a reported rift with white-ball captain Jos Buttler.

Flintoff has been working with the England white-ball teams since last year. The former cricketer was part of the tour to the West Indies in 2023 and also went with the squad in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

The 46-year-old Flintoff has been working with the England men’s cricket team on a short-term consultancy basis without a full-time contract.

According to the report in the Telegraph, Flintoff will not be part of England’s coaching staff for the upcoming white-ball series against Australia. England will host Australia for three T20Is and five ODIs from September 11 to September 29.

The report further added that England’s white-ball skipper Jos Buttler did not gel well with Flintoff during the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in June, where the defending champions were knocked out in the semi-final by India.

In the recently concluded The Hundred, Flintoff was the head coach of the Northern Superchargers. The franchise won five games, lost two, and missed out on reaching the play-off stages.

Earlier, Flintoff was also considered a candidate for the role of white-ball head coach for the English side, which has been vacant since the departure of Matthew Mott.
