"You've earned.." Anushka Sharma pens emotional note as husband Virat Kohli retires from test cricket

Virat Kohli represented India in 123 tests from 2011 to 2025.
Indian cricketer Virat Kohli pulled down the curtains on his test cricket career on Monday, May 12. The right-handed batsman announced his decision with an Instagram post. Kohli will continue to be part of Indian Cricket Team in ODIs.
His retirement came just a few days after Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from the longest format. Sharma announced his retirement from tests on May 7, but will continue to lead the side in the ODIs as skipper.
Notably, Kohli was in talks with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for the last one month over his test retirement. BCCI officials wanted him to reconsider his decision ahead of the crucial test series against England next month. However, Kohli eventually went ahead with the decision of hanging up his boots in the longest format after a 14-year-long career.
Anushka Sharma shares post on Virat Kohli’s test retirement
After Kohli announced his retirement from tests on Monday, his wife Anushka Sharma shared a heart-warming post on Instagram. The Indian actress shared a photo of herself with Kohli and lauded the latter for his immense dedication to test cricket over the years.
“They’ll talk about the records and the milestones — but I’ll remember the tears you never showed, the battles no one saw, and the unwavering love you gave this format of the game. I know how much all this took from you. After every Test series, you came back a little wiser, a little humbler — and watching you evolve through it all has been a privilege,” she wrote.
“Somehow, I always imagined you’d retire international cricket in whites — But you’ve always followed your heart, and so I just want to say my love, you’ve earned every bit of this goodbye,” she further added.
Kohli will only represent India in ODIs as he has left the other two formats. The right-handed batsman retired from T20Is last year in June after India won ICC T20 World Cup 2024. India’s next ODI cricket assignment is against Bangladesh in August.
Meanwhile, Kohli played for India in tests for 14 years from 2011 to 2025. He mustered 9230 runs across 210 innings at a batting average of 46.85. He also slammed 30 centuries, including a top knock of an unbeaten 254. He also holds the record for the most double tons by an Indian batsman in tests (7).
