The Mumbai Indians have lost seven of nine games in IPL 2026.
Mumbai Indians (MI) suffered another horrible defeat against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League 2026. The Hardik Pandya & Co. failed to defend their 160-run total in the clash.
Opting to bat first, MI got off to a blistering start thanks to Ryan Rickelton and Naman Dhir. However, they lost a few wickets in quick succession as their middle-order batters failed to go big once again. They ended with 159/7, struggling to score enough runs in the middle overs.
In the chase, CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad led from the front, smacking an unbeaten half-century. Young star Kartik Sharma also scored his maiden half-century in IPL, helping to lead the team to victory. CSK reached the target in 18.1 overs with eight wickets to spare.

The Mumbai Indians are not officially eliminated from the playoffs. After the loss against CSK, their chances of reaching the top four have become very slim. Usually, a team need 16 points to secure a place in the playoffs.
However, MI have only five matches left, and they can only get 14 points even if they win all of their remaining matches. Now their chances of qualifying for the playoffs will depend on the performance of other teams.
After the defeat against CSK, the Hardik Pandya & Co. are stranded in the ninth spot in the points table with four points. Out of nine games, they have won two matches and lost seven.
Punjab Kings are the table toppers with 13 points, followed by RCB, SRH, and RR with 12 points each. These four teams are the favourites to reach the playoffs at the moment.
Gujarat Titans take the fifth spot in the points table with 10 points, followed by CSK in the sixth position with eight points. GT and CSK also have a good chance of booking a berth in the playoffs if they come up with an impeccable show in their upcoming games.
The top four teams in the points table are far ahead of MI in the race to the playoffs. The tournament is entering its final stage and it is less likely that these teams will goof up in forthcoming games after such a brilliant start.
Moreover, MI are struggling even after nine games and it is less likely that they will win all of their remaining five matches.
