Arshdeep Singh is yet to make his test debut for India.
India assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate faced the press ahead of the fourth test against England to be played in Manchester from July 23. The Indian team is currently in Beckenham, a town in Greater London, in preparation for the fourth match of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025.
Vice-captain Rishabh Pant damaged his fingers while fielding in India’s third test match at the Lord’s, which ended on Monday with a 22-run loss.
While India are yet to provide a solid update on his availability for the next test match, which will be contested in Manchester, the touring team suffered another setback that impacted their pace-bowling strategy.
“The medical team has taken him off”—Ryan ten Doeschate on Arshdeep Singh’s injury
During the nets session in Beckenham on Thursday, Arshdeep Singh—who has not yet made his test cricket debut—was seen with a hand that was extensively strapped.
India’s assistant coach, Ryan ten Doeschate, told reporters that he was hit by a ball during a practice and was brought to the doctor right away.
“He (Arshdeep Singh) took a ball while he was bowling there. So, he hit a ball, and he tried to stop it, and it’s just a cut. So, we have to see how bad the cut is. Obviously, the medical team has taken him off to see a doctor, and obviously, whether he needs stitches or not will be important to our planning for the next few days,” Ryan ten Doeschate said in a press conference.
Ten Doeschate’s comment suggested that Arshdeep Singh’s injury had an impact on India’s preparations for the Manchester test match amidst the conversation surrounding Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj’s workload throughout the tour.
Experts have expressed worries about Siraj’s workload in addition to the discussion around Bumrah’s workload and whether he should participate in the upcoming match against England. Siraj has bowled the most overs of any Indian bowler on the tour, totaling 109 overs in six innings thus far in the series.
