Ashish Nehra to be removed, Gujarat Titans to revamp coaching staff ahead of IPL 2025 mega auction - Reports

In a significant development, the Gujarat Titans (GT) are all set to make changes to their coaching staff and might remove head coach Ashish Nehra ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 edition, according to a report in Cricbuzz.

The Gujarat-based franchise made its IPL debut in the 2022 edition and appointed Nehra as the head coach and Hardik Pandya as the captain.

In their debut season, the franchise won their maiden IPL trophy. In the 2023 season, GT played their second consecutive final, but suffered a heartbreaking defeat against Chennai Super Kings on the last ball of the final. 

Before IPL 2024, skipper Hardik Pandya was traded to Mumbai Indians in an all-cash deal, and Titans named opener Shubman Gill as the new captain. However, this move didn’t work for Gujarat as they were eliminated from the tournament after league stage. The Shubman-led GT finished in the eighth position this year.

According to a recent report in Cricbuzz, the Gujarat management is set to revamp their coaching staff ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction.

The current GT staff includes Vikram Solanki as the director of cricket, Ashish Nehra as the head coach, and Gary Kirsten as the mentor and batting coach. Nehra and Kirsten are likely to part ways with the franchise. The South African has already become the head coach of the Pakistan cricket team.

Solanki might be retained by the Titans.

Despite GT’s success in two out of three seasons, Nehra is likely to be sacked. While he’s done a good job with the team, it is believed that his rapport with the decision-makers has been strained.

Cricbuzz stated, “It is said that Nehra may have unsettled some individuals. The former India pacer was a visible presence in the past seasons, including the 2023 final when he was seen advising Mohit Sharma after every delivery. But he wasn’t as frequently spotted by the television cameras in the 2024 season and this might not be coincidental.”
