Asitha Fernando dismissed Shreyas Iyer for 23 runs in the first ODI match on August 2.
Sri Lanka right-arm speedster Asitha Fernando produced a cracking delivery to castle Indian batter Shreyas Iyer during the opening match of the three-match ODI series at the R.Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on August 2.
After being asked to field first, the Indian bowlers had a good outing with the ball as they restricted hosts Sri Lanka to 230/8 in 50 overs.
Pathum Nissanka and Dunith Wellalage scored half-centuries to help Sri Lanka reach a respectable total. For India, left-arm speedster Arshdeep Singh and all-rounder Axar Patel bagged two wickets apiece.
Asitha Fernando’s stunning delivery dismantled Iyer’s stumps
During 25th over of India’s innings, Sri Lanka skipper Charith Asalanka recalled his speedster Asitha Fernando into the attack. The right-arm pacer didn’t disappoint his captain as he removed Indian middle-order batter Shreyas for 23 runs on the second ball of the over.
The 27-year-old Sri Lanka speedster bowled an in-swinging delivery that pitched on good length. Shreyas was struck at the crease while attempting to play a shot on off-side. The Indian batter didn’t account for the inward movement and had to pay the price as the ball hit the top of the off-stump.
Shreyas scored 23 runs in 23 balls, including four boundaries. At the time of writing, the visitors are struggling at 145/5 in 28.3 overs with KL Rahul and Axar Patel at the crease.
