Marcus Stoinis back in T20Is as Australia name squad for 3-match tour of New Zealand

Australia will play three T20Is against New Zealand in October.
Australian Cricket Team, on Tuesday, 2nd September, announced their squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against New Zealand. All-rounder Marcus Stoinis has returned to the Australia squad for the T20I series. He last played a T20I game for Australia in November 2024.
Australia will tour New Zealand in October for the three-match T20I series. The opening game will be played on October 1 at Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui. The next two encounters will be played on October 3 and 4 at the same venue.
The squad was announced following Mitchell Starc’s decision to retire from the shortest format of the game. With The Ashes around the corner, Australia have decided to rest Cameron Green, who will be playing in the early rounds of the Sheffield Shield for Western Australia.
All-rounder Marcus Stoinis, who last played for the side in T20Is in November 2024 at home, has returned to the T20I setup in a bid to make it to the team’s squad for the ICC T20 World Cup next year in India and Sri Lanka. Moreover, Pat Cummins has been ruled out of the three-match T20I tour as well as the subsequent home white-ball series against India.
Alex Carey and Aaron Hardie, who were part of Australia’s last T20I series against South Africa, will not be part of the New Zealand tour. Moreover, Matt Short, Mitch Owen, and Xavier Bartlett have returned to the T20I squad.

Meanwhile, Australia won their last T20I series against South Africa at home. They won the opening game by 17 runs and the third encounter by two wickets. Proteas won the second T20I by 53 runs.
After the New Zealand tour, the Men in Yellow will host India for three ODIs and five T20Is in October-November.
