Bangladesh cricket team played their first-ever test match in the year 2000. Since making their debut in tests, Bangladesh have faced a challenging journey in test cricket till now.

Their growth in the longest format has been slow. In the past dozen years, they have been doing very well at home, while struggling outside their home turf. Perhaps their biggest achievement in test cricket came when they defeated Pakistan in a test series in Pakistan in 2024.

Bangladesh have produced a few highly talented batsmen who have made significant contributions to the team’s growth in test cricket.

These batters have done well in elevating Bangladesh’s test status on the global cricketing stage. On that note, let’s look at the top five run-getters for Bangladesh in test cricket.

5. Habibul Bashar – 3026 runs

Former captain Habibul Bashar is the fifth-highest run-getter for his nation in test cricket. The right-handed batter scored 3026 runs in 50 tests at an average of 30.87. Bashar notched up 24 half-centuries and three hundreds in his playing days in whites.

4. Mominul Haque – 4269 runs

Middle-order batter Mominul Haque has made 4269 runs in 66 test matches till now. The left-handed batter has a decent average of 37.77.

Mominul has recorded 13 centuries and 19 half-centuries. Mominul is the fourth-highest test run-scorer for Bangladesh.

3. Shakib Al Hasan – 4609 runs

Veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is the greatest Bangladeshi cricketer of all time. Shakib has been contributing to his team’s cause for 18 years.

In test cricket, Shakib has scored 4609 runs in 71 matches at an average of 37.77, including five centuries and 31 half-centuries. The senior batter is the third-highest scorer his nation in test cricket.

2. Tamim Iqbal – 5134 runs

Veteran opener Tamim Iqbal has played 70 test matches till now, in which the left-handed batter made 5134 runs at an average of 38.89, with 10 centuries and 31 half-centuries. Tamim is his country’s second-highest test scorer.

Senior wicket-keeper batter Mushfiqur Rahim is the leading test run-scorer for Bangladesh and is the first Bangladeshi to cross the 6000-run landmark.

In a test career that began in 2005, Rahim has scored 6003 runs in 93 tests till now at an average of 38.48, with the help of 11 centuries and 27 half-centuries.
