Bangladesh team sunk to a new low after they lost their most recent ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 match against Netherlands. This encounter was played on October 28 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Netherlands captain Scott Edwards won the toss and chose to bat first. Their top order as usual failed to give them good starts, but the middle order made runs as they have been doing in the ongoing World Cup. Wesley Barresi made 41, Captain Edwards made 68, Sybrand Engelbrecht made 35 and Logan van Beek scored 23*.

The Netherlands put up a fighting total of 229 runs. For Bangladesh, Shoriful Islam, Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, and Mahedi Hasan took 2 wickets apiece.

In reply, Bangladesh's batting faltered in front of some very good Dutch bowling and fielding. Bangla batters batted too casually and it resulted in them losing wickets regularly. Mehidy Hasan Miraz made 35, and Mahmudullah and Mustafizur made 20 runs each, as Bangladesh capitulated for 142 all out in 42.2 overs.

Paul van Meerkeren picked 4/23, while Bas de Leede picked 2/25 as Netherlands notched up their second win of the tournament.

Bangladesh suffered their fifth straight defeat in the World Cup, and this 87-run defeat thus effectively ended their semifinal hopes of the Tigers.
