Top 5 batsmen fastest to score 2500 runs in T20I cricket
Only 15 batsmen have scored over 2500 runs in T20I cricket so far.
A spate of batsmen have established their legacy and etched their names in the record books in T20I cricket. The T20 format is known for its rapid nature, where a batter’s excellence is measured by the impactful innings he plays.
During the process, these batters achieve many big milestones, although sometimes the milestones have come at the cost of a victory. So far, only 14 cricketers have scored over 2500 runs in T20Is.
In this article, we will take a look at the five batters who reached the glorious milestone of 2500 runs quickest among all.
Top five batsmen fastest to score 2500 runs in T20Is (by innings):
5. Aaron Finch (AUS) -78 innings
Former Australian captain Aaron Finch is the fifth-fastest batter to reach the 2500-run landmark in T20I cricket. Finch achieved this feat during the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 match against Sri Lanka in Dubai.
Finch took 78 matches and 78 innings to reach this milestone. In his career, Finch scored 3120 runs in 103 T20Is, with two centuries and 19 half centuries.
4. Suryakumar Yadav (IND) – 71 innings
Current Indian T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav is the fourth-fastest batter to score 2500 runs in T20I cricket. Suryakumar achieved this feat in Hyderabad during a bilateral series between India and Bangladesh in 2024.
Suryakumar took 71 innings to reach this milestone. Suryakumar has so far played 74 T20Is, scored 2544 runs, which includes four hundreds and 21 fifties. He has also hit 144 sixes in the shortest format of the game.
3. Virat Kohli (IND) – 68 innings
Modern-day chase master Virat Kohli is the third fastest batter to score 2500 runs in T20I cricket. The legendary batter achieved this historic feat against the West Indies in Hyderabad in 2019. He took 68 innings to reach the figure of 2500 T20I runs.
After winning the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, Kohli announced his retirement from T20I cricket. The 35-year-old amassed 4188 runs in 125 T20Is at an admirable average of 48.69. Kohli also scored one century and 38 half-centuries in his T20I career.
2. Mohammad Rizwan (PAK) – 65 innings
Pakistan wicket-keeper batter Mohammad Rizwan is the second-fastest batter to score 2500 runs in T20Is. Rizwan achieved this feat during the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 match against the Netherlands in Perth. The keeper-batter took 65 innings to achieve this milestone.
The 32-year-old has aggregated 3313 runs in 102 matches in the shortest format. Rizwan has made one century and 29 half-centuries till now.
1. Babar Azam (PAK) – 62 innings
Veteran Pakistan batter Babar Azam is the fastest batsman to score 2500 runs in T20I cricket. The right-handed batter took 62 innings to achieve the milestone of 2500 T20I runs.
Babar achieved this feat during the semi-final match of ICC T20 World Cup 2021 between Pakistan and Australia in Dubai.
The 29-year-old Babar has scored 4145 runs in 123 T20Is till now. The former captain has made three centuries and 36 half-centuries in this format.
