Ben Stokes opts out of the IPL 2024

All-rounder Ben Stokes will miss the upcoming season of IPL 2024.
Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 preparation has begun as the teams have begun to chart out their plan before IPL mini-auction 2024 on 19th December in Dubai. Chennai Super Kings in a press release has confirmed that all-rounder Ben Stokes will be missing the upcoming IPL season to manage his workload. Ben Stokes has also been dealing with a long-standing knee problem and is likely to undergo surgery.
Chennai Super Kings were the winners of IPL 2023 under MS Dhoni’s leadership and will be looking to get their record 6th IPL title. Ben Stokes was part of CSK’s IPL 2023 campaign and he could only play two games in the previous edition. CSK bought Ben Stokes for 16.25 Crore rupees in IPL 2023 mini-auction that happened in Kochi. Stokes was out of the action due to a knee injury problem.
Chennai Super King released a statement and said, “Chennai Super Kings management is supportive of Ben in his decision to manage his workload with England playing a 5-Test series in India before the IPL and then the T20 World Cup in June 2024.” It will be a hectic schedule for players as the T20 World Cup 2024 in West Indies and USA will begin right after Indian Premier League season 17.
England are currently the World champions in the T20I format as they won the previous edition played in Australia in 2022. Ben Stokes played a crucial role in his team’s win in the finals played against Pakistan at MCG. Stokes will be looking to recover from his injury and then lead his team against India in a 5-match test series. In between Stokes will stay away from the action and enter into the T20 World Cup with fresh legs.
Ben Stokes was part of England’s ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 campaign in India and played a couple of good innings in the last few games. England had a dismal run in the World Cup 2023 campaign and finished with only 3 wins in 9 league games. Stokes came out of his ODI retirement only to play in the recently concluded mega event but England couldn’t uplift their performance to defend their title. Stokes smashed a century against Netherlands in Pune.
