Shakib Al Hasan is considered the greatest cricketer in Bangladesh’s cricketing history.

Shakib Al Hasan is the greatest and most prominent cricketer that Bangladesh have produced till now. The legendary all-rounder has also been at the top of the ICC’s all-rounder rankings in multiple formats for a long period of time.

Talking about test cricket, the former Bangladesh captain made his debut against India in Chattogram in May 2007. Since then, Shakib has played 70 tests. With the bat, the left-hander has scored over 4600 runs at an average of 38.33, and with the ball, he has bagged 240+ wickets.

Shakib is Bangladesh’s highest wicket-taker in test cricket; he is the only bowler to pick 200 or more wickets for his country in the longest format.

5. 6/99 vs South Africa, Centurion, 2008

Shakib Al Hasan’s fifth-best bowling figures in test cricket came during the Centurion test match against South Africa in November 2008.

Batting first, Bangladesh scored 250 runs as Zunaed Siddique made 67 runs. In reply, South Africa’s Ashwell Prince scored 162*, which guided the hosts to 429 runs, while Shakib Al Hasan scalped six wickets in 28 overs.

In Bangladesh’s second innings, they were bundled out for 131 runs and lost the match by an innings and 48 runs.

4. 6/82 vs Pakistan, Mirpur, 2011

Shakib’s fourth-best bowling figures in test cricket came during the Mirpur test against Pakistan in December 2011

Batting first, Shakib played an outstanding knock of 144 runs, which helped Bangladesh reach 338. In reply, Pakistan opener Taufeeq Umar scored 130, while Shakib picked up a six-wicket haul in 40.5 overs. Pakistan made 470 runs in their first innings.

Bangladesh were all out for 234 runs in their second innings and set a target of 103 runs. Mohammad Hafeez’s 47-run knock helped Pakistan win the match by seven wickets.

Shakib was named the Player of the Match for his all-round performance.

3. 6/59 vs Zimbabwe, Mirpur, 2014

In the Mirpur test against Zimbabwe in October 2014, Shakib Al Hasan showcased his class with the ball. In the first innings of Zimbabwe, the visitors were rocked by Shakib’s masterclass of spin bowling. Shakib scalped six wickets in 24.5 overs as Zimbabwe were all out for 240 runs. Bangladesh scored 254 runs in their first innings.

In their second innings, Zimbabwe were bundled out for 114 runs after Taijul Islam took eight wickets. While chasing 101 runs, Bangladesh won the match by three wickets.

2. 6/33 vs West Indies, Kingston, 2018

Shakib’s second-best bowling figures came against the West Indies in the second test match of the series in Kingston in 2018.

West Indies made 354 runs in the first innings. In reply, Bangladesh were rattled for just 149 runs.

With the West Indies having a decent lead, Shakib displayed his wizardry with the ball in the hosts’ second innings. The left-arm spinner bagged a six-wicket haul in 17 overs, which bundled West Indies out for 129 runs.

While chasing 335, Shakib played a fighting knock of 54 runs, but his side lost the match by 166 runs.

1. 7/36 vs New Zealand, Chattogram, 2008

Shakib Al Hasan took his maiden five-wicket haul during the Chattogram test match against New Zealand in October 2008.

Batting first, Bangladesh made 245 runs. In reply, the New Zealand batting line-up surrendered against Shakib’s spin masterclass. The left-arm spinner took seven wickets in 25.5 overs. The Black Caps were all out for just 171 runs.

Bangladesh then set a challenging target of 317 runs for the Kiwis after Shakib played a valiant knock and scored 71 runs. While chasing, New Zealand won the match by three wickets as Aaron Redmond and Daniel Vettori scored half-centuries.
