Best possible Punjab Kings playing XI for IPL 2024 after auction

Punjab Kings purchased Harshal Patel, Chris Woakes and Rilee Rossouw in the IPL 2024 auction.

Apart from the IPL 2014, Punjab Kings (PBKS) had a below-average performance in most of the seasons. Punjab Kings are yet to win their maiden Indian Premier League title. They have always fallen short narrowly due to the inconsistency in performance. In the IPL 2023, PBKS were in the reckoning for the IPL playoffs but failed due to defeat in the final two league games against Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals. 

Punjab Kings finished 8th in the points table with 12 points and 6 victories out of their 14 league games. Punjab had a magnificent start to their campaign in the IPL 2023 and started with two consecutive wins but soon after they failed in the bowling department. Punjab looked to strengthen their pace bowling and purchased Harshal Patel for a huge 11.75 Crore INR. Punjab will be bolstered by his presence along with South African star Kagiso Rabada.

Punjab Kings retained almost all of their core squad members and looked to go for only Indian names in the mini-auction. Apart from Harshal Patel, PBKS also tried hard to get back Shahrukh Khan in the auction, but lost the bidding war against Gujarat Titans. Punjab purchased Chris Woakes for 4.20 Crore INR and Rille Rossouw in an accelerated process as a possible replacement for Shahrukh Khan in the lower-middle order. 

Opening batter Shikhar Dhawan will be leading the side for one more season in the IPL 2024 and also take charge in the opening department along with English wicket-keeper Jonny Bairstow. Uncapped Indian top-order batter Prabhsimran Singh will be batting at number 3 and Atharva Taide is another option available for the PBKS. Famous all-rounder Liam Livingstone will be batting at number 4 for the Punjab side. 

Rilee Rossouw can also be tested at number 4 who is known for playing big knocks in this format. Jitesh Sharma will be the wicket-keeper and middle-order batter along with all-rounder Sam Curran and Harshal Patel. Pace bowler Harshal Patel can also play a significant role with the bat. Rahul Chahar will be the spin bowler, while new recruit Harshal Patel might be accompanying the likes of Kagiso Rabada and Arshdeep Singh in the pace department. Harpreet Brar also might be getting chance as a spin-bowling all-rounder.
