Australia have a 2-1 lead in the BGT 2024-25 after four tests.

The Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 has been a gripping battle, with momentum shifts between the two sides but currently the hosts are ahead.

India started the series on the front foot with a dominant 295-run win in Perth, but Australia made a strong comeback with a 10-wicket victory in Adelaide, keeping their unbeaten record in day-night tests at the venue intact. The third test in Brisbane ended in a rain-affected draw before Australia claimed a 184-run win in the Boxing Day test in Melbourne.

Jasprit Bumrah has been India’s star with 30 wickets in the series so far. Youngsters Yashasvi Jaiswal, Nitish Kumar Reddy and Washington Sundar have also impressed with key contributions, but several big name players are yet to fire for the Asian giants.

On that note, let’s take a note at three Indian cricketers who have disappointed throughout the BGT 2024-25 series.

Three Indian cricketers who have disappointed throughout the series:

1. Rohit Sharma

Indian captain Rohit Sharma is having a horrific series. Starting the series as a No. 6 batsman, he has shuffled the batting order to fit himself but failed to go past the 10-run mark in five innings.

Rohit has looked uncertain with his footwork, getting dismissed in different ways, including LBW, caught behind, and bowled. His tally of 31 runs in five innings is unbecoming of a senior batsman.

In addition to his batting struggles, Rohit has often looked clueless as a captain and has been defensive in field settings.

He’s been in a horrible rut since the home test season, and his test career is likely to be nearing an end.

2. Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli started the series on a resounding note, scoring his 30th test hundred in the second innings of the Perth test. However, he has struggled since and has managed only 167 runs in seven innings at an average of 27. Excluding his century, he has managed only 67 runs in six innings.

The 36-year-old batsman has been dismissed in a similar fashion on all six occasions, edging deliveries outside the off stump.

His lack of application has been frustrating for the Indian fans and has been a let down for the team. If he fails in Sydney, the selectors may have to make a tough decision regarding the experienced player’s future.

3. Rishabh Pant

One of India’s heroes of the last two Australian tours, Rishabh Pant has scored 154 runs in seven innings at an average of 22 in this series so far. Having previously batted at No. 6 and 7, Pant has now been promoted to No. 5 for this series.

As much as his lack of runs, Pant’s mode of dismissals has frustrated the critics, with Indian legend Sunil Gavaskar famously calling his first innings dismissal at the MCG “Stupid stupid stupid.

Pant’s rash shot in the second innings of the Melbourne test began India’s collapse, ultimately resulting in a 184-run defeat for the visitors in a test match they could have saved.
