Steve Smith hit his 10th test century against India.

On Sunday in Brisbane, Steve Smith notched up a test century after over 17 months during Australiaā€™s first innings of the third test of the BGT 2024-25. His last test ton came during the Ashes 2023, after which he went into a form slump, which included a tough time opening the batting.

A shift back to No. 4 didnā€™t bring him instant results as he managed only 19 runs in his first three innings of the BGT 2024-25. Heading into the Gabba test, Smith made technical adjustments by bringing back his exaggerated shuffle across the off-stump, something that he had discarded when he started opening the batting.

This technical tweak worked immediately as he raised his 33rd test century, moving past Steve Waughā€™s tally of 32 test hundreds to become the second-highest test centurion for Australia, sitting behind Ricky Ponting, who cracked 41 test centuries.

As Sunil Gavaskar said on commentary, ā€œIt was a proper test match century from Smith.ā€ The right-hander paired with the imperious Travis Head, who struck a 115-ball ton, in a double hundred partnership as the pair took Australia from 75/3 to 316/4.

While Head was, as usual, barbaric against the Indian bowlers, Smith struggled initially. But the veteran batsman remained confident in his technique to ride the difficult tide. Once the Indian pacers were through their first couple of spells of the day, Smith grew confident in his strokes.

His best was seen after he reached his fifty as he drove confidently and pulled assertively. Smithā€™s knock of 101 runs off 190 balls included 12 boundaries.

This was his 10th test century against India, no other batsman has more against India, while Joe Root also has 10.

Fans lavished praise on Steve Smith for his sumptuous century at the Gabba:
