Yashasvi Jaiswal formed a 201-run opening partnership with KL Rahul in Perth.
22-year-old Yashasvi Jaiswal keeps going from strength to strength in his test career. After hammering a century on his test debut in West Indies and then slamming two double centuries at home against England, the left-hander aced the toughest challenge thrown at him so far: Australia in Perth.
Jaiswal was dismissed for a duck in the first innings of the Perth test as he kicked off his Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 on a poor note, nicking Mitchell Starc in slips.
However, the southpaw quickly learned from his mistake of driving outside the off-stump early in his innings and didn’t make the same error in the second innings.
After India sneaked a 46-run lead in the first innings despite managing a score of only 150 runs, Jaiswal and Rahul gave India a terrific start in their second innings with an opening partnership of 201 runs.
Jaiswal was patient this time in leaving balls outside the off-stump, remained tight in his defence but also didn’t waste the opportunities to score boundaries when the Aussie pacers bowled loose balls. He was outstanding on his back foot, swatting Starc for a six via a pull shot and bringing up his century with a delicious uppercut to Josh Hazlewood.
Twitter gushed in praise for young Jaiswal as his hit his maiden ton in Australia in his first test match down under.
Fans lavish praise on Yashasvi Jaiswal following his terrific century in Perth test:
At the time of writing, India are 220/1, with a lead of 266 runs.
