BGT 2024-25: "You're old.." Nathan Lyon recalls Yashasvi Jaiswal's sledge during Perth test

Nathan Lyon picked up two wickets in the Perth test.
Young India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal not only let his bat do the talking in the Perth test but also sledged the Australians with a couple of bold remarks.
In the first BGT 2024-25 test, Jaiswal slammed 161 in India’s second innings after being dismissed for a duck in the first. His ton, followed by Virat Kohli’s century helped India set Australia a gigantic target of 534, chasing which the hosts were bowled out for only 238 runs.
As Jaiswal grew in his innings, his confidence grew. So much that he first sledged Mitchell Starc that he was “bowling too slow” and then sledged veteran off-spinner Nathan Lyon that he’s getting old.
Ahead of the second test in Adelaide, Lyon revealed how Jaiswal chirped at him in the Perth test.
Speaking on SEN radio, Lyon said, “Young Jaiswal, he said that you’re a legend, but you’re old. He said that to me when I was bowling. He said that to me when he was muscling about at 120, but ya, it’s all good fun.”
In Perth, Lyon returned with two second-innings wickets to show. In India’s first innings, he bowled five overs and conceded 23 runs off them. It proved to be crucial as India managed to take a 46-run first-innings lead.
I’m expecting it to be pretty helpful to spin bowling: Nathan Lyon on Adelaide pitch
The senior off-spinner would be hoping to help Australia fare better in the upcoming day-night test match in Adelaide, a place Lyon knows very well having worked as a ground staff at the Adelaide Oval before his cricket career took off.
He has had tremendous success here. He is the leading test wicket-taker at the Adelaide Oval, with 63 wickets ahead of Shane Warne’s haul of 56 scalps. Lyon is expecting help for spinners in Adelaide.
“It’s a great venue to (bowl) spin and I think what Damian ( Adelaide pitch curator) does is he produces a great wicket that’s got enough in it and it’s challenging for both bat and ball. If you’re good enough with the bat you’ll score runs, if you’re good enough with the ball you’ll hopefully create enough chances along the way.
“I think this is probably the best cricket wicket in the world so I’m expecting it to be pretty helpful to spin bowling as well.”
