BGT 2024-25: [Watch] Virat Kohli and emotional Ravi Ashwin exchange hugs in dressing room; Fans speculate retirement

As the third BGT 2024-25 test at the Gabba came to a conclusion, speculations began about the retirement of senior India off-spinner Ravi Ashwin.

A couple of senior journalists privy to the developments in the Indian dressing room revealed on Twitter that a “big announcement” awaits at the end of the Gabba test.

The rumors gained strength when Ravi Ashwin was seen in an emotional state hugging and talking with Virat Kohli at the balcony of the Gabba.

The broadcasters captured this emotional moment between the two India greats. In the clip that is going viral, Kohli embraced Ashwin in a warm hug and then both watched the rain together as the match was called off.

The 38-year-old Ashwin is one of India’s biggest match-winners in test cricket. He was the chief man responsible for India’s 12-year series-winning streak at home from 2012 to 2024.

In 106 tests, Ashwin took 537 wickets at an average of 24. The off-spinner claimed 37 five-wicket hauls and 25 four-wicket hauls. He also bagged eight 10-wicket match hauls in his test career.

Ashwin, who was part of India’s 2011 World Cup winning squad and 2013 Champions Trophy winning team, had a significant ODI career as well, picking up 156 wickets in 116 ODIs. In T20Is, he snared 72 wickets in 65 matches.

Meanwhile, the BGT 2024-25 is levelled at 1-1 after the draw at the Gabba, where rain impacted the match significantly. The fourth test match will be played at the MCG from December 26.
