Sam Konstas cracked a stunning half-century on his test debut.

19-year-old Sam Konstas hit the Indian cricket team like perhaps no batsman has in the last few years as the youngster, on his test debut, blasted a 52-ball half-century. With a jaw-dropping display of fearlessness and innovation, Konstas attacked the Indian bowlers on day 1 of the fourth BGT 2024-25 test.

The first hour of the MCG test belonged to the youngster who stunned everyone – from the Indian players to all the fans – so much that a veteran in Virat Kohli was so rattled that he shoulder bumped into the youngster.

The Boxing day test began with a bang as Konstas, who had replaced Nathan McSweeney in what was a debated selection call, took the aggressive route against the Indian bowlers.

His takedown of Jasprit Bumrah, the best fast bowler in the world and in the series, will be remembered for a long while.

He whacked Bumrah for a 14-run over and an 18-run over, including scooping and reverse-scooping him behind the wicket for boundaries. He would even move to the leg side and knock around boundaries on the off side.

Clearly, India weren’t ready for this sort of counter-attack from the young Aussie opener who was on his debut.

During one of the over breaks, Virat Kohli deliberately shoulder-bumped into Konstas as the players were walking in opposite directions.

Konstas was taken by surprise by Kohli’s physical move. Both players had a look at each other and exchanged heated words. The umpire Michael Gough and Usman Khawaja separated the duo.

Meanwhile, at the time of writing, Australia are 78/0 after 15 overs with Konstas on 55* (58).
