Travis Head suffered a quad injury during the third test in Brisbane.
The BGT 2024-25 series is set for the much-awaited Boxing Day test match, starting on December 26, which has a sell-out crowd for day 1.
With the series locked at 1-1 after the first three tests, the excitement among the fans is at its peak.
India won the first test in Perth by a whopping 295 runs. But Australia retorted strongly as well, winning the Adelaide test by 10 wickets. The Gabba test was captivating in whatever play was possible but eventually ended in a draw as rain had a significant impact on it.
Since the day 5 of the Gabba test, there have been doubts over Travis Head’s fitness and his availability for the MCG test. While batting on day 5 in Brisbane, Head hobbled between wickets and later a quad strain was confirmed.
BGT 2024-25: Will Travis Head play the fourth test at the MCG?
Yes, Travis Head has been declared fit for the fourth test against India at the MCG. Captain Pat Cummins confirmed this update, saying, “Trav’s good to go, he’ll play. He just ticked off some final things today and yesterday. But no worries about injury with Trav. He’ll go into the game fully fit.”
“I don’t think you’ll see too much management of him throughout the game. He just kind of plays as is. Maybe around fielding, if he’s a bit uncomfortable, we will (manage him), but he’s fully fit.”
Head is the leading run-scorer of the series. He’s smoked 409 runs – nobody else has even 250 – in five innings at an average of 81 and strike rate of 94 with two centuries and one fifty.
Australia have made two changes to their line-up. Youngster Sam Konstas is set to make his test debut. He will replace Nathan McSweeney at the top. Scott Boland will replace the injured Josh Hazlewood.
Australia XI for MCG test: Usman Khawaja, Sam Konstas, Marnus Labuschagne, Steve Smith, Travis Head, Mitch Marsh, Alex Carey (wk), Pat Cummins (c), Mitchell Starc, Nathan Lyon, Scott Boland
