Yashasvi Jaiswal top scored for India with 166 runs in the MCG test.

The fourth Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) is headed for an exciting finish.

Chasing a 340-run target, India got off to a poor start with experienced batsmen Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, and Virat Kohli all dismissed for single-digit scores, leaving the team at 33/3 at Lunch.

Indian fans, in particular, took to social media to express their disappointment with Virat Kohli, who has repeatedly been dismissed in a similar fashion, edging balls outside the off stump, throughout the series.

India found some relief when southpaws Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant put on 88 runs for the fourth wicket. However, Pant’s rash shot off Travis Head’s delivery triggered a collapse, with India losing Ravindra Jadeja and Nitish Reddy soon after.

The biggest moment of the day came when Pat Cummins dismissed Jaiswal. Cummins bowled a bouncer to Jaiswal, who attempted a hook. Australia appealed for LBW, but the umpire turned it down. Upon review, it appeared there was a clear deflection, but there was no movement on Snicko/UltraEdge.

The third umpire concluded that the visual evidence of a deflection was enough to overturn the on-field decision and judged Jaiswal out. The decision left the opener frustrated and he was seen arguing with the umpires.

At the time of writing, Australia have tightened their hold on the game, reducing India to 148/7. Washington Sundar (3*) and Akash Deep (7*) are at the crease, needing to survive another 17 overs to secure a draw. Australia also have the second new ball waiting later on.
