Yashasvi Jaiswal formed a 201-run opening stand with KL Rahul in India’s second innings.
The star of Yashasvi Jaiswal keeps on shining brightly and expanding as the youngster slammed his maiden test ton in Australia in his first match down under.
In the first Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 match, being played at the Optus Stadium in Perth, Jaiswal had bagged a duck in India’s first innings. But the left-hander learned from his mistake of wafting outside the off-stump early on to adjust and adapt to record a magnificent ton in his second outing in the match.
While he was out nicking to Mitchell Starc on day 1 of the match, on day 2, Jaiswal remained caution and compact in his leaves and defences against the Aussie pacers. But every now and then he would also collect a boundary to remind the opposition why he is rated as one of the best young batsman, if not the best in the world.
Jaiswal has certainly been the best or second-best batsman in the world since his debut. Since his debut in July 2023, he’s India’s leading run-scorer and is around Joe Root in terms of runs, averages and centuries.
In Perth, the 22-year-old took on the likes of Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood to make merry as the conditions got better for batting.
He brought up his century on day 3 via a delicious uppercut sixer, reminding fans of Sachin Tendulkar, off Hazlewood. The youngster celebrated in his trademark manner as the fans in the Optus Stadium gave him a standing ovation.
