The Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 will start on November 22, 2024, in Australia.

After the conclusion of the three-match test series against New Zealand at home, the Indian cricket team will travel to Australia for the high-voltage Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.

The much-awaited Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 will be played from November 22, 2024, to January 7, 2025. Australia and India will clash in a five-match series for the first time since the 1991-92 series.

The Indian cricket team won the previous two test series on Australian shores (2018-19 and 2020-21). The Asian Giants will aim for a hat-trick of series wins Down Under on their upcoming tour.

On October 25, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the 18-member India squad for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. Rohit Sharma will lead the side, and Jasprit Bumrah has been named vice-captain.

The Indian squad consists of many young and new faces who will be travelling to Australia for the first time for a test series.

8 Indian cricketers who will be touring Australia for the first time for a test series:

1. Yashasvi Jaiswal

Youngster Yashasvi Jaiswal made his test debut against the West Indies in 2023. Since then, the left-handed batter has been in phenomenal touch in the longest format.

Jaiswal has racked up over 1000 runs in 2024 in test cricket already and is India’s most in-form test batsman at the moment. The left-hander is also India’s highest-ranked test batter in the latest ICC test batting rankings.

Jaiswal will be on a test tour to Australia for the first time in his career.

2. Abhimanyu Easwaran

On the back of a string of big scores in recent months in domestic cricket, Abhimanyu Easwaran has been named in the squad for the Australian tour. He has hit five centuries in his last six First Class (FC) matches.

The 29-year-old has a sublime record in FC cricket: 7638 runs in 99 matches at an admirable average of 49.92, with 27 hundreds and 29 half-centuries.

3. Sarfaraz Khan

Indian middle-order batter Sarfaraz Khan will be touring Australia for the first time in his test career. Khan made his test debut earlier this year against England after performing superbly in the domestic circuit in the last few years.

Sarfaraz has been exceptional in his brief test career so far. The 27-year-old has slammed one century and three half-centuries in four tests till now.

4. Dhruv Jurel

Wicket-keeper batter Dhruv Jurel made his test debut during the England test series at home earlier this year in the absence of Rishabh Pant and did well showing tight technique and strong temperament, both in front and behind the stumps.

Jurel was also part of the Bangladesh and New Zealand test series at home, but was on the bench as Pant returned. He has been picked in the Indian squad for the Australian tour as the second wicket-keeping option.

This will be Jurel’s first Australian tour with the test side.

5. Akash Deep

Indian cricket team pacer Akash Deep made his test debut against England in Ranchi in 2024. He has been heavily impressive in his four test matches so far and even replaced Mohammed Siraj as the second seamer for the Pune test against New Zealand.

The 27-year-old will be touring Australia for the first time with the Indian test squad.

With Mohammed Shami not available for the Australia test series, Akash Deep is expected to play a crucial role alongside Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj in the pace department.

6. Harshit Rana

Delhi speedster Harshit Rana has earned his maiden test call-up for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.

Rana’s impressive performance for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 with the ball helped him earn call-up to India T20I squad for Zimbabwe and Bangladesh T20Is, but he didn’t get a chance to play.

Talking about his First-Class record, Rana has scalped 36 wickets in just nine matches at a good bowling average of 24.75.

7. Nitish Kumar Reddy

Rising all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy had a brilliant IPL 2024 season with the bat while playing for the Sunrisers Hyderabad. The talented cricketer slammed 303 runs in 15 matches.

He got to feature in the T20Is against Bangladesh. In three T20Is, the all-rounder scored 90 runs, including one half-century and made dents with the ball as well.

After a good performance in the Bangladesh T20I series, Reddy has earned his maiden test call-up for the upcoming Australian tour.

8. Prasidh Krishna

Indian speedster Prasidh Krishna made his test debut against South Africa in Centurion in 2023. However, due to injuries, Krishna has missed a lot of action this year.

Krishna has played two tests and scalped two wickets till now. The 28-year-old has been picked for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. This will be Krishna’s first test tour of Australia.
