David Warner found no bidders at his base price of INR 2 crores.

David Warner was the biggest overseas name who went unsold at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction that took place on Sunday and Monday in Saudia Arabia.

Warner was brought up twice in the mega auction – first in regular set and then in the accelerated round – but both times none of the 10 franchises, including his previous franchise Delhi Capitals, bid on him at his base price of INR 2 crores.

David Warner is the leading run-scorer in the IPL among overseas players with 6565 runs at an average of 40 and has notched up four centuries and 62 fifties in the league.

He led Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) to their only IPL title in 2016.

Warner had been part of the IPL since 2009. He started his career with Delhi Capitals (then Daredevils), then moved to SRH in IPL 2014 and returned to DC in IPL 2022.

He spent the last three seasons at DC and even led them in IPL 2023 when Rishabh Pant was injured. While he had two excellent seasons for DC, his IPL 2024 campaign was a disappointment, as he scored 168 runs in eight games with only one fifty.

Warner retired from international cricket at the start of 2024. He is 38 years old and had a poor IPL 2024 season. All these factors seem to contribute to the franchises not bidding for the veteran Australia opener.

However, Warner could still play in the IPL 2025 despite going unsold in the mega auction.

How can David Warner still play in IPL 2025 after going unsold at mega auction?

Yes, although he went unsold in the mega auction, Warner could feature in IPL 2025 if any franchise brings in him as a replacement player for an injured player. So while Warner couldn’t find a team in the auction, his chances of appearing in the tournament are not completely over.

According to the IPL rules, teams can replace injured players in the squad from the pool of players who registered themselves at the auction and remained unsold.
