Coming into the ICC WTC final, Shubman Gill scored 890 runs in the recently concluded IPL 2023.

India will go into the World Test Championship final against Australia with the same opening combination as it was in the previous edition in 2021 against New Zealand. Captain Rohit Sharma will be weathering the Australian pace trio storm with Shubman Gill. KL Rahul’s injury has fixed Shubman’s place in the playing eleven as opener along with captain Rohit. Gill has been in magnificent form in the IPL 2023 for Gujarat Titans and won the orange cap this season. Gill will be a key player for India in their contest with mighty Australians. Former Australian captain Greg Chappell identified a few weaknesses of Gill and has suggested Australian pace attack to target on that given area.

Chappell suggests Shubman Gill's weak area to target

Greg Chappell has admitted that Shubman Gill is a wonderful batter and if he gets going in the WTC final, then it will be too tough for Australia to make a comeback. Chappell in a talk show said, “I will not go into too much detail but I’m sure the Australians must have seen a couple of things that I have seen… Shubman gets vulnerable to the length around off stump and if the ball bounces a little bit extra, he will be susceptible to nicking off behind the wicket”. He further added that Shubman is a good player if they don’t bowl him there, He will punish them in the game.

Australia will enter with Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc in pace attack. Greg Chappell also believes that Mitchell Starc could trouble Shubman Gill around the length he is talking about. He also believes that fit Josh Hazlewood will also get an extra bounce with his style of bowling. Former Indian coach has praised the Indian Cricket system in nurturing young Indian batters like Shubman Gill. Gill will play his 3rd Test in English soil.
