On July 9, 2024, BCCI secretary Jay Shah announced former cricketer Gautam Gambhir as the new head coach of senior men’s Indian Cricket Team. Gambhir’s tenure will begin with the upcoming white-ball tour of Sri Lanka and he will remain as the coach until the end of ICC Cricket World Cup in 2027.

A few days ago, the BCCI announced the squads for the upcoming away white-ball tour of Sri Lanka. The Lanka series will be the first major assignment for the Indian Cricket Team after lifting the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 title in Barbados on June 29.

BCCI named Suryakumar Yadav as the T20I skipper, whereas Rohit Sharma will lead the Men in Blue in ODIs. Interestingly, the selectors named Shubman Gill as vice-captain of both squads against Sri Lanka. 

The three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka will be played from July 27 to 30, whereas three ODIs are scheduled to be played from August 2 to 7.

Ahead of India’s preparation for the upcoming Sri Lanka series, many cricket fans have expected newly appointed head coach Gambhir to address all questions regarding the squad selection when he faces the media for the first time.
