[Watch] Rishabh Pant receives standing ovation from crowd as he steps on cricket field after 453 days

Rishabh Pant last played a cricket match in December 2022 during India’s tour of Bangladesh.

In the IPL 2024, Rishabh Pant returned to competitive cricket after a gap of 453 days. There was a standing ovation for Pant from crowd when he entered the field for second game of the IPL 2024 between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Delhi Capitals (DC) at the MYS International Stadium.

DC are captained by Rishabh Pant in the ongoing IPL 17 season. On Saturday, March 23, DC kicked-off their IPL 2024 campaign with a clash against PBKS at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, the new home ground of PBKS.

Pant was involved in a catastrophic vehicle accident in December 2022, which sidelined him for close to 15 months. His right knee required numerous surgeries, followed by a hard 14-month recuperation and rehabilitation regimen.

The BCCI medical personnel at the National Cricket Academy, where he was receiving rehabilitation, then gave him the all-clear medically. When it was announced that Rishabh Pant would play in the IPL 2024 as wicket-keeper batter and captain DC.

Rishabh Pant scored 18 runs in his first knock after 453 days

It was an emotional moment for everyone in the cricket community as Rishabh Pant walked to the dugout with his pads on following the first DC wicket. Pant stepped into bat after David Warner was dismissed in the ninth over of DC’s innings, with their score at 74/2.

The television cameras filmed the emotional moment as spectators at the newly erected stadium stood on their feet to welcome one of India’s biggest match-winners. Even the DC players and support personnel were standing up, applauding the young wicket-keeper batsman who stepped out to bat.

He hit two lovely boundaries in his knock of 18 runs in 13 balls, before falling to Harshal Patel.
