Hardik Pandya was pretty poor as a leader and as a player in IPL 2026 for Mumbai Indians.

The star Indian all-rounder, Hardik Pandya, who captained Mumbai Indians (MI), in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 has been out of action from competitive cricket due to his injury. However, he has been in the news ever since the league ended. Pandya’s trade rumours are doing the rounds on social media.

Hardik Pandya had rejoined MI in 2024, and returned to the team as the leader, replacing Rohit Sharma. His appointment as the captain, despite the presence of other senior players in the side, upset many fans. Since 2024, nothing has gone right for the franchise either.

The five-time IPL champions managed to qualify for the knockouts only once, in 2025. While, in 2024 and 2026, they struggled badly, finishing 10th and 9th in the points table, respectively.

The MI fans and admirers are not used to such woeful campaigns. The blame was primarily on the team management, for the manner in which the team’s state of affairs were handled, with the sudden removal of their beloved captain, Rohit Sharma, who won five titles, and the appointment of Pandya at the helm.

Reportedly, Pandya had a three-year contract with the franchise, which has ended after the IPL 2026. There are trade rumours circulating on the social media.

CSK and six other franchises keen to trade Hardik Pandya – Reports

As reported by Times of India’s journalist Sahil Malhotra, as many as six franchises apart from Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have expressed their interest in trading the Indian all-rounder.

Franchises like Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), and Rajasthan Royals (RR) have shown active interest in having the 32-year-old all-rounder in their side.

KKR and RR are ready to give Hardik the captaincy and a long-term role. Both of these franchises have the lack of experience and one star Indian player in their teams currently, and hence, could be looking at Hardik to solve these problems for them.

However, it will be interesting to know what KKR has to offer in return for Hardik. They lack any big names in the team, and might have to make an all-cash deal. Whereas, for RR, there have been reports suggesting a trade-off between Yashasvi Jaiswal and Pandya.

On the other hand, CSK entered the race fairly late, but are very keen to have Pandya in their team. CSK too, post-Dhoni, lack a face for the franchise, and apart from Sanju Samson and Ruturaj Gaikwad, they lack experience too. Hardik will add a lot of value to the team, but the main question would still remain regarding who will be traded in return.
