Chennai Super Kings release Dwaine Pretorius ahead of IPL 2024 auction

All-rounder Dwaine Pretorius played 7 games for CSK over two seasons.
Ahead of the deadline for the IPL 2024 retention and release final list submission, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have released South African all-rounder Dwaine Pretorius. The CSK are the defending champions, winning the IPL title for the 5th time under MS Dhoni’s leadership in IPL 2023.
With Ambati Rayudu retiring after the completion of the 2023 edition and England Test captain Ben Stokes pulling out ahead of the 17th edition of the cash-rich league to manage his workload amid a Test series in India before and a T20 World Cup after, the Chennai Super Kings’ purse has already increased by more than INR 20 crore.
Dwaine Pretorius of South Africa has left the Chennai Super Kings ahead of the retention day. Pretorius, who made his IPL debut in 2022, was purchased by the five-time champions in the super auction for INR 50 Lakh.
He appeared in just seven games for the Men in Yellow over two seasons, taking six wickets and scoring 44 runs in five innings.
“Thank you CSK. It was epic”- Dwaine Pretorius bids goodbye
Dwaine Pretorius announced his retirement from international cricket earlier this year in January. His most recent international appearance came against India in a T20I in Indore in October of last year. He was also a member of the side that flew to England for the 2019 World Cup, where he played three games and got five wickets.
Former South Africa all-rounder Dwaine Pretorius shared a post on Instagram on Sunday bidding goodbye to the franchise indicating that he won’t be retained ahead of IPL 2024.
“Thank you CSK. It was epic. I would like to thank all the management, coaches, players and fans for my time at CSK. It was an awesome experience. I learnt so much. All the best for season 2024. Cheers,” Pretorius said in a statement.
