Ravindra Jadeja scored just five runs in the CSK vs RR IPL 2024 match.

In the match No. 61 of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was given out in a bizarre way against Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the MA Chidambaram stadium in Chennai on May 12.

After being asked to field first, the Chennai bowlers bowled consistently throughout the first innings as they restricted Rajasthan to a below-par total of 141/5 on a slow track. CSK pacer Simranjeet took a three-wicket haul, whereas Tushar Deshpande picked two scalps. For Rajasthan, Riyan Parag played an unbeaten knock of 47 runs while others batters failed to convert their starts.

While chasing 142, the Chennai batters didn’t break their sweat as skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad played a crucial match-winning knock of 42* runs. Rachin Ravindra (27) and Daryl Mitchell (22) chipped in with the bat as the defending champions registered a five-wicket win over Rajasthan. With this victory, Chennai solidified their chances of reaching the IPL 2024 playoffs.

Ravindra Jadeja adjudged out ‘obstructing the field’

However, during the match, there was a controversy when Ravindra Jadeja was given out obstructing the field. The incident happened during the 16th over of the match when Royals skipper Sanju Samson brought Avesh Khan into the attack. On the fifth delivery, Jadeja dabbed the ball towards the third man and ran halfway down the pitch, following a miscommunication with Gaikwad.

Samson, who ran towards the third man and quickly collected the ball, tried to throw it towards the non-striker’s end, but Jadeja, who saw the ball in Samson’s hand changed his direction and started running towards the stumps, so that Samson misses it.

Following it, Rajasthan appealed for obstructing the field against Jadeja, and when the third umpire checked a few replays, the CSK all-rounder was seen watching the ball and aware of where it was heading. Hence, the umpire gave him marching orders towards the Chennai dressing room. Jadeja went after scoring just five runs. Soon after the dismissal, cricketing fraternity made it a hot topic across social media.
