IPL 2024: 5 current RCB players who won the IPL title before joining RCB

Despite being members since the league’s inception, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have not won the title in Indian Premier League (IPL) history eve nonce. However, RCB have played in three finals in 2009, 2011, and 2016, but they couldn’t reach glory even once. Their performance in the ongoing IPL 2024 is also not up to par.
RCB have already lost three out of the first four matches they have played and also became the first team to lose a home game in the tournament. Their main players are not firing. However, despite the side not winning any title in the IPL so far, a few members from their squad for the ongoing edition have won the title before joining the team. Here we will talk about those players.
Here are five current RCB squad members who have won IPL before joining RCB:
5. Yash Dayal
The RCB pacer Yash Dayal made his IPL debut in 2022 for Gujarat Titans. He took 11 wickets in nine games for GT in his debut season. That was also the debut season for GT in the IPL, and under Hardik Pandya’s captaincy, they won the title, and Dayal was one of the few players who have won the IPL title on debut season. However, now he is part of the RCB squad. He has also done well in the IPL 2024 so far.
4. Lockie Ferguson
The Kiwi speedster Lockie Ferguson is another player who is part of the current RCB team in IPL 2024. However, he hasn’t played a game yet, but he is likely to make his debut soon. RCB bought him at the 2024 auction. But before that, he was playing for KKR in 2023. Ferguson made his IPL debut in 2017 for KKR. But in 2022, he was with GT and played 13 games for them, including the final. He won the title with GT.
3. Faf du Plessis
The current RCB skipper Faf du Plessis made his IPL debut in 2011 for Chennai Super Kings and was part of the CSK setup until 2021, barring two seasons in 2016 and 2017. However he was released by the CSK franchise before IPL 2022 mega auction. Later, RCB bought the South African star at the 2022 mega auction and made him the captain of the side. But before joining Du Plessis, he won three seasons with CSK in 2011, 2018, and 2021, respectively.
2. Alzarri Joseph
West Indies pacer Alzarri Joseph was signed by RCB at the IPL 2024 for a price of INR 11.75 crores. He also played the first three games but couldn’t perform as per his price tag. Well, he is one of those players who won the title before joining RCB. The pacer was part of Gujarat Titans when they won the IPL in 2022.
1. Karn Sharma
Veteran leg-spinner Karn Sharma joined RCB in 2022, and he is part of their current squad in 2024 as well. Though he hasn’t played a game this season, he might get a chance soon. He made his IPL debut in 2009 for RCB. However, Karn Sharma has won the IPL title with three teams before joining RCB for his current stint.
In 2016, he was part of Sunrisers Hyderabad when they won the IPL. In the very next year, he was part of Mumbai Indians’ title winning campaign. He completed a hat-trick with CSK in 2018 when they won the IPL. He was also part of CSK’s title winning campaign in 2021 before he re-joined RCB at IPL 2022 auction.
