David Miller took a one-handed catch of Tilak Varma in the second IND vs SA T20I in Gqeberha.

After being asked to bat first in the second game of the four-match IND vs SA T20I series, the Indian team started their innings on a poor note.

Sanju Samson, who had scored back-to-back centuries for India in the last two T20Is, was dismissed for a duck in the first over of the innings by Marco Jansen.

Following Sanju’s early departure, Abhishek Sharma’s lean patch continued as he too fell to a short-length delivery from Gerald Coetzee. India struggled to build momentum, finishing the powerplay with 34/3.

South Africa’s bowling has been clinical throughout the innings, but the most exceptional play of the day came in the 8th over of the game when Tilak Varma played an inside-out shot off Aiden Markram’s bowling but David Miller clung on to a spectacular one-handed catch.

The connection with the bat was good from Varma and the ball seemed to be travelling to the boundary line. But Miller, placed at short cover, pulled off a one-handed stunner by putting a full-stretched dive.

Meanwhile, at the time of writing, India have lost six wickets for the score of just 87 runs in 16 overs.

India now face the daunting task of posting a competitive total against a strong South African side. With the pitch assisting the fast bowlers India would expect the pace duo of Arshdeep Singh and Avesh Khan to do make early dents.

Teams:

India (Playing XI): Sanju Samson(w), Abhishek Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav(c), Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya, Rinku Singh, Axar Patel, Arshdeep Singh, Ravi Bishnoi, Varun Chakaravarthy, Avesh Khan.

South Africa (Playing XI): Ryan Rickelton, Reeza Hendricks, Aiden Markram(c), Tristan Stubbs, Heinrich Klaasen(w), David Miller, Marco Jansen, Andile Simelane, Gerald Coetzee, Keshav Maharaj, Nqabayomzi Peter.
