Deepak Chahar missed the white-ball leg of South Africa tour to be with his ailing father.

India pacer Deepak Chahar gave an update about his father Lokesh Singh Chahar, a few weeks after he had suffered a brain stroke. This led to Chahar missing the 5th T20I against Australia at home as he rushed to be with his father.

His father was attending a wedding in Aligarh when he fell ill and was admitted to a local hospital. . Chahar got the news about his father on December 2 and immediately rushed to Aligarh’s Mithraj Hospital where his father was admitted.

“We got him to the hospital on time. Else, it could have been dangerous. His condition is better at the moment. People were asking, why I didn’t play the final T20I against Australia. For me, my father is very important. He made me the player I am. I cannot leave him in this condition and couldn’t go anywhere,” he had told Sports Tak.

Deepak Chahar had been named in the Indian white-ball squads for the South Africa tour. Reports had suggested that Chahar had spoken to the BCCI and head coach Rahul Dravid about his availability and while it was expected that he would miss some games for India, Chahar ended up missing the entire ODI and T20I series as he cared for his father.

But now, he had given an update on his father by sharing a photo with him on Instagram.

He wrote: “Have learned so much from you Papa. Once again you have shown how to fight in life in or with life. Very lucky to be your son. Thank you everyone for wishes. Good part is  that I saw my father in beard for the first time”
