Despite win in homecoming, MS Dhoni threatens to quit CSK captaincy
MS Dhoni's Chennai Super Kings defeated Lucknow Super Giants by 12 runs, but the CSK captain isn't happy with the bowlers.
After a long gap of 4 years, IPL returned back at Chepauk. Chennai Super Kings playing against Lucknow Super Giants opened their winning account in IPL 2023. In a high scoring game, CSK defeated Lucknow by 12 runs. Batting first, Chennai Super Kings gave Lucknow a target of 218 to chase, LSG in reply scored 205 runs in loss of 7 wickets. Chennai fans had their Paisa Wasool comeback in IPL, apart from CSK’s win, MS Dhoni played a scintillating 3 ball knock to entertain the crowd. He smashed two back to back sixes to complete his 5000 runs in IPL. Learning from their first game, CSK’s control in spin bowling made them victorious against LSG.
Chennai opener's gave a flying start
Batting first Chennai Super Kings got off to a flying start. Both the openers Ruturaj Gaikwad (57) and Devon Conway (47) played wonderful shots around the park. Both of them added 110 runs in 9 overs. LSG Captain KL Rahul was not too happy with Lucknow’s bowling unit. He said that bowlers were confident about the wicket yet they could not bowl in the right areas. Rahul said, “There was a bit of help for bowlers but they did not put it in the right areas, When you quality batters in the opposition they make you pay for your mistakes”.
Mayers increases homework for Lucknow management
West Indian all-rounder Kyle Mayers had another good game and this will surely make Lucknow management do a bit of homework in squad balancing. KL Rahul was also pleased with Mayers Performance. He said, “Kyle Mayers has come in with some good form… I saw him smoking the balls for West Indies. It’s good to see him playing with the same approach here as well”. Mayers scored 53 runs in 22 balls to give Lucknow the start they required to chase down 200+ total.
CSK Bowlers get a warning from their leader MS Dhoni
Talking about the homecoming, CSK Captain MS Dhoni was happy with the crowd support. Other than Deepak Chahar, CSK’s pace bowling looked like a weak link. Talking about the pacers, Dhoni cheekily gave them a warning saying they need to have more control in bowling or else be ready to play under a new captain. He said, “It’s the fast bowling that will need improvement…They will have to bowl no no-balls and less wides and need to cut them out”. Tushar Deshpande, coming in as an 'Impact player' was seen struggling to find his rhythm in both the games for Chennai Super Kings.
Spin twins help CSK register their first win of IPL 2023
In Chennai’s win, two spinners played their part too, Moeen Ali and Mitchell Santner had a terrific game with the bowl. Moeen Ali was awarded the Player of the Match award for his 4 for 26 and 19 runs inning. Moeen after receiving the award said, “It was a tough one because they have big hitters. I tried to bowl like in Test Cricket and try to spin it as much as I can”. Ali’s all-round performance and Santner’s support made Lucknow struggle in middle overs. Mitchell Santner picked up one wicket and gave only 21 runs in his quota 4 overs.
