Shreyas Iyer has been top-notch with his batting and captaincy in the IPL 2025.
Punjab Kings (PBKS) skipper Shreyas Iyer had a fantastic outing as a leader as well as a batter in the game against Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The game between the two teams took place at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Monday, 26th May.
Punjab Kings had a dream outing with the bat and ball against Mumbai Indians as they finished the league stage on a high. The Shreyas Iyer-led side beat the five-time champions by seven wickets to end the league stage at the top of the table and book their berth in Qualifier 1 of the IPL 2025.
The addition of Shreyas Iyer has changed the fortunes of the Punjab Kings in the IPL, as this is the first time in 11 years that they have qualified for the playoffs. The Indian batsman has led from the front in the tournament and scored over 500 runs, proving why he holds a high status in Indian cricket.
Shreyas Iyer has been top-notch with his captaincy in the league as well, and this was evident during the game against the Mumbai Indians. The right-hander opted to field first, and his staggering bowling changes saw Punjab Kings restrict the opposition to a total of 184 runs.
Suryakumar Yadav (57) was the star with the bat as he played a brilliant innings under pressure. The rest of the Mumbai Indians’ batter didn’t have a great outing apart from Naman Dhir (20), who played a cameo down the order to power his team to the fighting total.
With the bat, Punjab Kings came up with a magical effort. Although they lost Prabhsimran Singh early, Priyansh Arya (26) and Josh Inglis (73) counter-attacked the opposition and took the game away with their 109-run partnership for the second wicket.
After both the batters were back in the hut, skipper Shreyas Iyer took charge and slammed an unbeaten 26 runs off 16 balls to take his team home. Punjab Kings chased the target with ease and achieved it in 18.3 overs.
While the performance of the Punjab Kings was one for everyone to see, what caught the attention of many was the antics of Hardik Pandya after the game was over. The Mumbai Indians skipper potentially disrespected Shreyas Iyer during the post-match handshake.
Hardik Pandya refused to shake hands with Shreyas Iyer, and this incident happened twice. The video went viral on the internet, with many criticising the Mumbai Indians skipper.
