"Didn't expect.." Babar Azam opens up on crowd chanting his name in ICC Cricket World Cup 2023
Babar Azam amassed 320 runs in 10 matches in the ODI World Cup 2023 in India.
Pakistan white-ball skipper Babar Azam hailed Indian fans and said that he loved his experience in India during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. Babar also said that the Pakistan cricket team was warmly welcomed everywhere and got love from fans throughout the country.
Babar Azam-led Pakistan played 10 matches in India during the 2023 ODI World Cup. However, the team failed to reach the semi-finals. The Pakistan team previously travelled to Indian soil during the ICC T20 World Cup 2016.
It is to be noted that both India and Pakistan don’t play any bilateral cricket due to political tensions between the two nations. The arch-rivals only meet each other in the ICC Tournaments. Both the Asian Giants last played any bilateral cricket when Pakistan toured India in an ODI series in 2012–13.
Indian people gave us so much love, they appreciated our cricket: Babar Azam
During an interaction on Zalmi TV, Pakistan white-ball skipper Babar felt amazing while coming to India for the ODI World Cup 2023. Babar expressed that it was a different experience, and he praised Indian fans for showing immense love to his side and also for loving their cricket throughout the tournament.
“I have spoken to people about the playing conditions and all but the welcome we’re given at Hyderabad airport was outstanding,” he said. It was a different experience”, Babar Azam said.
The right-handed batter also added that he didn’t expected jam packed crowd in Hyderabad. Babar also said that during their team practice sessions, Indian fans were cheering for the side.
“It was their love, Indian people gave us so much love, they appreciated our cricket. Even in our practice games, people were cheering for us. The entire stadium in Hyderabad was jam packed. I was not expecting it from India”, he further added.
