Dinesh Chandimal was dismissed for 17 runs by Shoaib Bashir in the Manchester Test.
Sri Lankan wicket-keeper batter Dinesh Chandimal got really unlucky with his dismissal in the first innings of the ongoing test match against England in Manchester as he received an unplayable delivery from off-spinner Shoaib Bashir.
After winning the toss and opting to bat first, the visitors had a poor start as they lost three wickets in only the first seven overs. Dimuth Karunaratne (2), Nishan Madushka (4) and Angelo Mathews (0) all fell cheaply to the English pacers. Sri Lanka were reeling at 6-3 at the end of the 7th over.
Kusal Mendis, who played positively, got a brutal short delivery from speedster Mark Wood and he was out for 24 runs as the visitors stumbled to 40-4.
Unlucky Chandimal gets dismissed by off-spinner Bashir
Senior batter Dinesh Chandimal was the next to be dismissed in the 23rd over to off-spinner Bashir. Bashir bowled an off-break delivery that pitched on length outside the off-stump and turned in. Chandimal moved on the back foot to play it across the line.
However, the ball barely bounced and stayed too low after pitching. Chandimal was caught completely off guard with the low bounce as the ball snuck under his bat and hit his back foot. Chandimal was given out on the field and took DRS.
The replays showed that the ball was hitting the base of the off-stump. The Sri Lankan batter departed after scoring 17 runs in 40 balls.
At the time of writing, Sri Lanka are struggling at 106/6 after 32 overs.
